“Empowering young people to discover new perspectives in life”
the edge mission statement
Mission Statement
1. Purpose
The Edge exists to empower young people to discover new perspectives in life.
2. Ethos
To honour God and express the love of Christ towards all young people in the Ballynahinch area through example, word and action.
We believe that people matter to God and therefore they should matter to us. We want to show young people that they can have a positive self-image and sense of worth and purpose because God loves them.
3. Staff & Volunteers
We are committed to recruiting, training and supporting staff and volunteers. The staff and the majority of volunteers must reflect the ethos of The Edge through a personal faith in Jesus Christ.
4. Core Values
Our core values are based on the needs of the whole young person :
Mental
Physical
Social
Spiritual
• MENTAL
We are committed to providing information and support to young people in order that they can make informed decisions on issues affecting their lives. We are also committed to building relationships with other bodies who can help young people with their mental and emotional development.
• PHYSICAL
We are committed to the physical safety and well being of young people. We are also committed to building relationships with other bodies who can help young people with their physical development.
• SOCIAL
We are committed to building relationships with young people and recognise their importance as individuals therefore we are committed to creating an environment in which young people can relax, have fun and form lasting friendships with their peers. We are also committed to helping young people develop the social skills necessary to become responsible members of society and will therefore work with other bodies who can help young people in this area.
• SPIRITUAL
We are committed to the holistic development of young people and we believe that this includes a spiritual dimension therefore we are committed to giving young people opportunities to explore the Christian faith in ways which are culturally relevant to them. We are committed to maintaining the non-denominational nature of The Edge and will do all we can to ensure that young people are empowered to make their own decisions in spiritual matters as in all other areas of their lives, therefore we are committed to ensuring that The Edge does not promote membership of any one denomination to the exclusion of others.
Who we are...
The Edge is a cross community youth centre with a Christian ethos that aims to work with local churches, community groups and schools to empower young people to discover new perspectives in life. We welcome all young people regardless of race, religion, creed or none and seek to be a significant part of their emotional, physical and spiritual development.
